What is your daily delight? What is the one thing you look forward to every morning? For some it may be that warm cup of joy…that is coffee ;P For others it may be that nice morning run in the crisp cool air. Perhaps, it may be seeing that special someone whom you love dearly… Did you know that WE are God’s daily delight?

We see God’s intentional love towards us from the very beginning. From Genesis to Revelation, we see God’s desire and purpose in establishing a relationship with us.

Well, first let’s understand what “To delight” really means: Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary

1. (n.) A high degree of gratification of mind; a high- wrought state of pleasurable feeling; lively pleasure; extreme satisfaction; joy

Wow! I have definitely underestimated the meaning of the word delight. To know that God is this passionate about me is humbling, but it doesn’t stop there. He desires for us to be passionate about Him too. He desires for us to delight in him.

Listen to the words (the heart of God) in Psalm 1: 1-3 (NIV)

1Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
2But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.

The key passage is: who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked…but delights in the law of the Lord. A key word in this passage is walk.

To walk means to have fellowship with. It implies companionship, friendship, care, sharing, time investment…this is the kind of relationship God desires to have with us. God says blessed is the man who delights; who’s passion is in; who’s extremely satisfied…in His Word. Meditating in his word day and night means making it your life style; your thoughts, your actions, your attitude. Philippians 4:8

Check out the lives of these men that delighted in God. They all had a common denominator, they all walked with God.

  • “Enoch walked with God” – Genesis 5:22
  • “Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God” – Genesis 6:9
  • Isaiah 41:8 refers to Abraham as a friend of God.

When we walk with God, we can be sure that throughout all the seasons of life, as his word says, our leaf will not wither and whatever we do will prosper. We will go through tough times but we will not go through them alone, and if God is for us, if we are his delight and he is ours, who can be against us?

I leave you with a testimony from Kim Walker – Singer/Songwriter/Worshiper (Interesting her last name is Walker hehe). May her example of delighting in the Lord, inspire you just at it has inspired me.
