In Her Shoes: Clothed with Strength & Dignity

11831_14573_5As I read through Proverbs 31 verses 10-31, The Virtuous Woman, I was captured by verse 25. The first part describes the fashion style of a virtuous woman.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity…”

In today’s culture we tend to focus solely on outward beauty, latest fashion and trends and overlook the beauty of character. The virtuous woman values the beauty of character and it’s reflected in her fashion style. Her wardrobe is made up of admirable qualities such as strength and dignity. She wears these virtues as one would wear clothing. It’s protects her, it covers her and it reflects her interests & style.

Strength means having power to resist strain or stress; durability. (The American Heritage Dictionary)

Dignity means nobility of character, manner or language. (The American Heritage Dictionary)

The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 4:12, Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. This is an example of strength and dignity.

The second part describes her confidence and hope.

“…and laughs without fear of the future.”

She Laughs! Her heart is joyful. She knows to count it all joy because the testing of her faith produces patience and patience doing it’s perfect work in her, develops other qualities, until she lacks nothing (James 1:2-4).

She is not fearful for she knows that God has not given her a spirit fear but a spirit of power, of love and of a sound mind! (2 Timothy 1:7) She knows that God works out all things for the good of those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Did you know that these promises are for you as well? Grab a hold of them and make them yours!

Cloth yourself with strength and dignity so that you may be able to laugh without fear at the future because you know where your help comes from.

Feeling a little 80’s

Hi Chicas!! Como estan? I hope you all had a blessed weekend. Fashion trends almost always come back, so before throwing something away just because it went out of style think again! Take it out of the trash and box it up. Most of our moms wore acid jeans in the eighties and I love playing with fashion trends that were from in the days. I recently wanted really bad some acid wash jeans after seeing them in hotmiamistyles and on the blogger Katrina Lomidze rocking them.

But I’m the type of girl who has to try on her jeans because I have to make sure they fit just right! I happened to go to local boutique G-Stage and found some acid wash jeans that I knew I had to buy.

In Her Shoes: Becoming A Woman of Excellence

Now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you whatever you ask, for all my people in the city know that you are a woman of excellence. Ruth 3:11

I’ve studied the biblical character of Ruth before, but I had not stopped to focus on verse 11 as I did this time around. Currently some friends and I are studying the devotional book Becoming A Woman of Excellence by Cynthia Heald, and it begins by naming Ruth as an example of a woman of excellence.

In the verse above, it is interesting to note that Boaz, whom later became Ruth’s husband, made this comment about her. So let’s dissect it and dig deep…

“…all my people in the city know that you are a woman of excellence.

Observation: Reputation and Character

Let’s recall the story really quickly. Ruth is a young Moabite woman who initially married into the Jewish family of Elimelech and Naomi. After a few years in the land of Moab, Ruth and Naomi both became widows and Ruth was now faced with the choice to return to her own family and start a new life or walk into the unknown with Naomi, a widow with no one to take care of her. Throughout the years that Ruth lived with Naomi, she was able to learn and hear about this God of the Jews. So much did this impact her life that Ruth decided to go on with Naomi. Ruth loved her mother-in-law and loved her God as well. Even though the future was unknown, Ruth was determined to press on and not look back. Once they arrived in Judah, Ruth, a foreigner, worked very hard as a gleaner, picking up scraps of grain left behind from the harvesters. Although they didn’t have much, God always provided for Ruth and Naomi what they needed. Ruth carried on in her daily tasks to take care of her mother-in-law, and to her surprise, people were watching…and one of them was the noble man Boaz. Boaz took notice of Ruth and became her Redeemer. They married and had a son whom they named Obed. Obed became the father of Jesse and Jesse became the father of King David. (God truly restores and gives you more than you could have ever imagined)

Becoming a woman of excellence…

The world’s view of excellence tends to be based on success, popularity, beauty and intelligence to name a few. However, the biblical view of excellence looks quite different.

Ruth was described as a woman of excellence although she was a widow, poor and went about her lowly task of foraging for left over grain in a field…You see, what matters is character.

Excellence is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as “the possession chiefly of good qualities in an unusual degree; surpassing virtue, merit worth, value.”

Proverbs 12:4 talks about her surpassing worth…

An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.

Proverbs 31:10 talks about her surpassing value…

An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.

So how do we begin to cultivate this kind of character? It begins in your heart and in your mind.

Proverbs 23:7 says

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…

Romans 12:2 reads

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Philippians 4:8-9 adds

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

So there it is! God shows us through his Word, step by step how we can grow in the character of excellence. It begins in the heart and mind.

As we submerge ourselves in God’s Word, His words will begin to transform our thinking and our hearts to want to strive for that standard of excellence. We will go that extra mile, we will put that extra effort and we will do it for the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31 sums it all up excellently 😉

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

God Is Able!!!

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (2 Corinthians 9:8 NKJV)

“God is able” are three words that have so much truth and meaning. The word “able” is defined as “having necessary power, skill, resources, or qualifications.”(Dictionary.com) Do you believe that God is able to do far more then what you can think or imagine??!! These are words that leave me breathless and in awe of our Savior.

2 Corinthians 9:8 lets us know that God is able to do far more than we imagine. SAY WHAT??!!

Let me repeat it one more time. Are you ready??!

GOD IS ABLE TO DO FAR MORE THEN WE CAN THINK OR IMAGINE. Its hard to fully grasp that in our small finite brain. Our Savior is amazing he knows what we want and need before it comes out of our mouth.

Speak these words to your life today “God is able.”

GOD IS ABLE to meet you where you are and pour so much blessing that you won’t be able to contain it. “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this, Says the Lord of hosts, If I will not open for you the windows of heaven, And pour out for you such blessing, That there will not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10 “Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3

GOD IS ABLE to come to your rescue. “Say to those who are fearful-hearted, Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.” Isaiah 35:4

GOD IS ABLE to bring your Prince Charming when the timing is perfect. “Trust in Him at all times, you people” Psalm 62:8a

“I am my beloved’s, and My beloved is mine. He feeds his flock among the lilies.” Song of Solomon 6:3

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11

GOD IS ABLE to give you the strength and wisdom that you need to do your job/schoolwork. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let his ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

GOD IS ABLE to lift you up when your feeling discouraged. “So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:3

GOD IS ABLE to bring you out of the deep dark pit that you feel you are in. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah.” (Psalm 46:1-3)

“My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.” Psalm 119:50

GOD IS ABLE to lavish you with his unconditional love. “And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” John 17:25-26(NKJV)

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

“In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” 1 John 4:9

GOD IS ABLE to heal and restore your broken heart.

GOD IS ABLE to cleanse you and make you new. “He shall pray to God, and He will delight in him, He shall see His face with joy, For He restores to man His righteousness.” Job 33:26

“For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds, says the Lord, because they called you an outcast saying: This is Zion; no one seeks her.” Jeremiah 30:17

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Be encouraged beloved, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (2 Corinthians 9:8 NKJV)

Que te fortalece? que te destruye?

Cada persona es diferente, por lo tanto cada uno tiene diferentes miedos a ciertos animalitos. Unos tienen miedo a las arañas, otros a las cucarachas, otras personas a los ratones etc.

Tengo una amiga que su miedo son a las arañas. Es un pavor que les tiene que cada ves que ve una casi se desmaya y pierde el control. Un día de estos se puso a pensar que pasaría si se encontrara con uno de esos animalitos en el momento que ella en la carretera manejando su carro. Definitivamente no podría reaccionar de esa manera ya que eso podría ocasionarle perder no solo el control de su persona sino que también el control de su carro y ocasionar un terrible accidente y terminar con su vida y con una alta probabilidad de terminar con la vida de alguien mas.

Que bueno que lo pensó y que tenia un plan para reaccionar, porque su temor a que eso sucediera eso paso. Ella iba en el freeway, a 70 millas por hora, cuando de repente una araña salió del volante y callo en su pierna, empezó a gritar como loca y recordó todo lo que había pensado si eso llegara a suceder. Pudo controlar su miedo, ese pavor que muchas ocasiones la ha llevado al punto de desmayarse. Respiro profundo y estuvo tranquila hasta que pudo salirse del freeway y llegar a un lugar seguro en donde pudo salirse del carro y deshacerse de la araña.

Eso me hizo pensar que como seria de bueno que nosotros tengamos un plan de acción cuando los problemas y las dificultades se presentan en los momentos menos esperados así como la araña apareció derrepente en el volante. Lamentablemente nunca estamos listos cuando situaciones así se presentan, por lo tanto no sabemos como reaccionar y dejamos que el temor y la desesperación tomen el control total y el problema que quizás era fácil de solucionar se vuelve con doble de dificultad.

Estos son unos pasos que al poner en practica cambiara totalmente el rumbo que el problema trae. No es fácil pero si muy necesarios.

1. Confiando en Dios. Creer en su Palabra (La Biblia) y recordar cómo ha sido fiel en el pasado. Él nos asegura que le pone un límite a nuestras pruebas, y que nos da las fuerzas para soportarlas.

2. Perseverando. Aunque no entendamos, y el dolor parezca demasiado grande para soportarlo, nunca debemos claudicar. Sigue buscando al Señor por medio de su Palabra y la oración. Aférrate a la esperanza en Cristo, y alábale en medio del dolor.

3. Recordando que nuestro Dios soberano tiene el control. El está permitiendo esta adversidad por alguna razón, y mostrará su poder sustentador a través de ella. Aunque el dolor puede ser intolerable, el Señor nos sacará con bien. La Escritura compara nuestro desarrollo con el oro, que es refinado por el fuego. (1ª Pedro 1:7).

No son las pruebas en la vida lo que nos hace más fuertes o nos destruye, sino nuestra respuesta a las mismas.

In Her Shoes: Titus 2 Woman

modest-dress3In the previous In Her Shoes post, I briefly spoke about these particular verses found in the book of Titus, that exhort the older women to teach/ mentor the younger women in the issues of life. When I came across this picture, it made me want to revisit these verses and look deeper and really think about what this kind of woman looks like. So let’s read it together and find out…

Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers.a Instead, they should teach others what is good. 4These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, 5to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes,b to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.

Observation #1: Live in a way that honors God.

Observation #2: Teach others what is good.

Observation #3: Train/mentor/teach younger women in being godly women, wives, mothers, daughters, friends.

If you’re like me, you really appreciate the words of wisdom and experience that another godly woman can impart into your life. So whether you’re the younger one receiving advice or the seasoned one giving the advice, remember that we all have the opportunity to invest in someone else.

So, what does a Titus 2 Woman look like? A woman who invests in the lives of others while not compromising her own. You need to walk the talk, so you can teach the talk.

Let’s strive to be Titus 2 woman who impact the next generation and leaves behind a godly legacy.

In Her Shoes: Devoted 2013

Just a few days ago, I had the privilege of visiting Hawaii for the first time and experienced the Word of Life- DEVOTED 2013 Women’s Conference! There was one more factor that made this year’s conference extra special; it was the 25th ANNIVERSARY as well. It was beautiful to see a woman such as Pastor Kuna Sepulveda being honored for 25 years of faithful service, heart and devotion to the women’s ministry.

God has been stirring my heart for quite a while now regarding women’s ministry. When I was invited to this conference I knew that God was going to show me what He has in store for me…and that He did!

As I first packed my bags, I told God I just wanted to be a sponge and learn and absorb from these women who have been faithful in ministry and have touched the lives of so many. I was reminded of the book of Titus chapter 2 verses 3-5 which reads:

Wow! I am so thankful for these women and mentors, who have DEVOTED themselves to loving God, being obedient to His Word and willing to teach the younger generation about living a life of purpose. That’s what the resounding theme of this year’s conference was to me. Living a Life with Purpose!

Faith Out of the Box

God has a calling for our lives. Whether you know what that calling is or are still trying to figure it out, remember that the journey is as important as the destination. We are to enjoy our endeavor in the “searching” and “seeking.” Yes we know the ultimate destination is heaven, but don’t miss out on life here in the present. Live a life with purpose and faith out of the box.

What does this mean? It means you don’t put limits on yourself or on God. It means you have the kind of faith we read about in Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

I had the privilege of learning from Pastor Charne Pretorius from 3C South Africa. OMG! This women is on FI’YAH! lol Amazing woman after God’s own heart that preached the word of God with authority and confidence! The words she shared with us really hit home to me. She said ” you were meant to be fully alive in your element.”

We aren’t meant to just exist or get by. We weren’t meant to live mediocre lives! Find out what is it that moves you, and go after it! This IS what God wants for us! John 10:10 reads:

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

 

God desires for us to not only have life but to have it to the FULL!

I also had the honor to learn from Cheryl Salem! This woman is n amazing worship leader and Bible teacher! She escorted us into God’s presence and it was beautiful!

How can I forget the Osteen Family! Thank you to Mrs. Dodie Osteen, Lisa Osteen Comes and April Osteen for sharing from the hearts, being real and showing us that life will be tough but with Christ ALL things are possible! We must keep on going.
